• Devido a sua natureza não polar, os polietilenos (PEs) possuem alta estabilidade a agentes químicos e outros meios, sendo resistentes a soluções aquosas de sais, ácidos inorgânicos (exceto aos agentes oxidantes fortes, como os ácidos nítricos e sulfúricos fumegantes) e álcalis. Até 60°C, os PEs são estáveis a muitos solventes.
